[UPDATE] Power Pyramid Spotlight

Konnet Technology recently sent over its latest PlayStation 3 accessory, the Power Pyramid, for us to check out. We've seen various similar peripherals over the past few years, so we weren't expecting much when it arrived. Surprisingly, we are decidedly pleased with the Power Pyramid.

An empty Power Pyramid
The Power Pyramid has two functions: it's a fancy stand for four Sixaxis or DualShock 3 controllers, and it also acts as a charging station.
The Power Pyramid mimics the simplistic but elegant design of the PS3. It has a 'modern art' feel, with two obelisks jutting out of the base that meet up to form a stand. The are four controller ports, which connect directly to each controller's mini USB port. While functioning as a charge station, the AC adaptor runs under the base of the Power Pyramid, so that means no unsightly wires in plain view. It doesn't require a connection to a PS3, either. Additionally, LED lights emit red light if the controllers are charging, and blue light when they're fully charged -- a useful, power-saving feature.

Freshly baked DualShocks
The elephant in the room is the peripheral's price tag. The Power Pyramid will run you $54.99 USD -- nearly the price of a full retail game. It's certainly not an essential add-on, but it's one that we've used surprisingly often. Even now, four DualShock 3s sit comfortably on the Power Pyramid beside this computer. If you have some spare dough, you should look for the Power Pyramid in a retail store or purchase one online. If you're strapped for cash, however, skip it and save up for what you really own a PS3 for: great games.
----------
UPDATE: Konnet contacted us and provided some relevant information based on your feedback in the comment section. There are three versions of the Power Pyramid: one for four PlayStation 3 controllers, one for four Xbox 360 controllers, and one hybrid for two PS3 controllers and two 360 controllers. Meanwhile, the price of the Power Pyramid will be $49.99 USD when the item arrives in U.S. retail stores and online retailers, which will be soon.

nice it supports 4 controls. 2012 is the end of the world, so this is fitting.

@4 lol
it's good that it doesn't requires connection to the ps3 but I don't think I need it since I only got a 6axis and a DS3
as a matter of fact, none of my friends has 4 controllers... so I have no idea who would be buying this

Wow, one of he most sylish controller docks I've seen. Unfortunately I have only 2 controllers - and I broke one of them - so I won't be able to take full advantage of this device. I intend to hopefully have a full repertoire of Dualshock 3s one day, and hopefully then this will be cheap enough to warrant a purchase. I have tonnes of spare cash now, but I plan on splashing it on a load of old titles I need catching up on, as well as storing some for new additions later this year (Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed II, BioShock 2, etc...). Even then the money won't be an issue, but I still find the cost of this accesory a bit pricey. Regardless, I'll wait a while for it to drop in price: I don't intend to have a full set of controllers any time soon anyway.

I am fine with my extended USB cord for charging and broken SixAxis controller that is joined together with Blu-tack and Sellotape. Now you want me to buy this pyramid garbage ? Keep it , my SixAxis survives well , even when i forget it inside my pants when i suddenly fall asleep scratching my dudu.

If you only have 2 controllers, try the Venom Controller Pyramid Charger. Same kind of thing. I have one, and it works a treat.

It looks pretty cool but the price is way too high for something that I just don't need

For half the price I have the Pelican charging system. It charges two on the dock and then it has 2 more USB ports. I think that's even better because I can charge either 4 controllers or 2 controllers and two USB headsets or 3 controllers and 1 USB headset etc. It gives me options and freedom and it was only $30 from gamestop. Seems like the better deal if you ask me. http://www.product-reviews.net/2007/10/19/pelican-sony-ps3-sixaxis-controller-charging-station-ultimate-playstation-3-accessory/
